2nd Graders To Receive Trees From Kiwanis
Elementary school children across the north country can soon expect a special delivery.
As part of the Kiwanis Earth Day/Arbor Day program, every club in the St. Lawrence Division has been packaging up young trees to deliver them to every second grader in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Franklin counties.
"We do a little program with them to explain why we plant trees and do a little question and answer service with them," said Kiwanian Coleman Guimond.
"We explain the good parts of trees and what they do for the environment," he said, "that's what we do."
This year, Kiwanis will give out around 4,000 trees to students from Watertown to Malone.
That's over 1,000 more than they handed out last year.
