3 Lewis County Rabies Cases This Week

Three animals have tested positive for rabies in Lewis County in the past two days.

Public health officials said Friday they are the first rabies cases in the county this year and no people were exposed.

A  raccoon in the town of Turin, a bat in the town of New Bremen, and a raccoon in the town of Harrisburg all tested positive.

Health officials say domestic animals were exposed in all three cases and those animals did not have up-to-date rabies shots.

Health officials say it is very important for people and their pets to stay away from wild animals, particularly if they are behaving abnormally, and to keep pets up to date with their vaccinations.
