One of the students injured in an accident Tuesday in the town of Brasher is in critical condition at a Vermont hospital.

Nineteen year old Brittany Brothers is being treated at Fletcher Allen Medical Center.

She was initially treated at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for internal bleeding.

Brothers, her 17 year old brother and their 10 year old sister were struck by a car while waiting for a school bus in their driveway on County Route 53.

The two younger siblings were treated for what police called non-life-threatening injuries at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Police say 18 year old Camren Campeau lost control of the car he was driving and struck the students.

Campeau was not hurt. State police say he was ticketed for unsafe speed.

All of the students involved are classmates at St. Lawrence Central School.

Brittany Brothers, 19, was waiting for the school bus in her driveway with her 17 year old brother and 10 year old sister when the teenage operator of a compact car apparently lost control on the slush-covered road and slammed into them.

"The vehicle did a 180, ended up going off the west side of the roadway and striking the three individuals with the back end of the vehicle," said Sergeant James Lobdell of the New York State Police.
 
Emergency crews were called to the scene on County Route 53 in the town of Brasher shortly after the accident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"There were two victims laying in the snow right near the vehicle that struck them and the third one was in another bystander's vehicle," said Terry Goodrich, president of Tri-Town Rescue Squad.
                                                    
All three children were taken to Massena Memorial Hospital by Tri-Town Rescue for treatment.

Officials said at least one of the victims underwent emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding.
 
Officials said Tuesday the injuries to the three victims were not considered life-threatening, but described them as "serious," consisting of broken bones as well as head and internal injuries.
 
While the operator of the 2006 Toyota Matrix, 18 year old Camren Campeau, was uninjured, state police say he is being ticketed for unsafe speed.

"One of the contributing factors would be speed not prudent for the conditions on the road," said Lobdell.
 
All of the students involved were classmates at St. Lawrence Central School.

It was nearly seven months ago when a teacher at the school and her two daughters lost their lives in a horrific crash in Jefferson County.

Superintendent Stephen Putman says the school is providing counseling for distraught students affected by painful memories.

"We're trying to do everything we can to support all of our students and families," said Putman.

We spoke with the father of the driver of the car.

He said his son is "traumatized" by the accident and "thankful" no-one was killed.
