30 Jobs Cut Under SLC Budget Plan

St. Lawrence County's projected tax increase has been cut to 15 percent with the elimination of the Certified Home Health Agency Program and with it more than 30 jobs.
Legislators decided to close the county agency next year and transfer the patient load to a privately run home health agency.

The county Public Health Department cuts would affect 17 nurses, four home health aides and 11 clerical workers, some who may be able to transfer to other positions or be hired by the private company taking over the program.

So far, the county has trimmed 50 positions, including retirements and job vacancies, from next year's spending plan.

Legislators are expected to adopt the budget November 26.
