It's officially the middle of May - the perfect time of year to visit the Chaumont Barrens. For those of you who've never been to the preserve before, it's certainly a site to see.

It was created some 10,000 year ago by a glacier that cut deep fissures into bedrock. It’s one of the last and finest examples of alvar grasslands in the world.

The hike takes about two hours to complete (2 miles long). Along the way, you’ll run into some interesting creatures and vegetation. The most unique plant in the preserve is prairie smoke. You can’t find it anywhere else in the northeast.
