A portion of Route 12 was closed to traffic Wednesday afternoon after fire broke out at a home at 9983 Main Street in the village Copenhagen.

When volunteers arrived on the scene at approximately 12:30, they were met with heavy smoke and flames shooting from the two-story house.

Officials closed Route 12 between Route 69 and the Stewart's Shop in the village.

The home was extensively damaged.

Neighbors say a family lived in the home.

Officials say no one was home when the blaze broke out.

There were no injuries.

Volunteers from Copenhagen, West Carthage, Rutland and Lowville responded to the scene.

Investigators have yet to pinpoint a cause, but officials believe the blaze started in the back of the house.
