4G Service Comes To North Country...Finally

You may have noticed something different about your smartphone or tablet lately: 4G LTE.

The fastest network available is here.

Actually, Verizon hasn't officially debuted 4G LTE in the north country, but is in the process of rolling it out.

That means certain areas like Fort Drum and portions of Watertown have the high-speed service.

"We're going to continue to light up individual sites as they become 4G LTE ready. So it is coming soon," said John O'Malley, spokesperson for Verizon.

AT&T users don't have to wait.

4G LTE has been in the north country since March and it's drawing rave reviews.

"Gaming and Facebook, everything, yeah, we have a lot of customers that do gaming with 4G LTE, it's much smoother," said Kevon Dewitt, AT&T Wireless.

And while faster speeds can make checking Facebook and playing Angry Birds that much better, 4G LTE can be useful for businesses looking for an edge.

Northern Glass in Watertown, known for fixing windows, there is another side to the business - one that lives on the phone.

"I actually find myself switching our wireless network off and just running off the LTE or 4G network because it is sometimes quicker than our network here," said Christine Petrie of Northern Glass.

The quicker the better it seems and 4G LTE will certainly help meet that need.

But now the question becomes: when will 5G appear on our phones and tablets?
