5 Homeless After Fire Near Ogdensburg

An afternoon fire just outside the city of Ogdensburg left a family of five homeless on Friday.

The Moreland Road fire broke out at the home of Doug and Stacey Snider.

Officials said 20 year old Taylor TeRiele was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom when she was awakened by heavy smoke and flames.

She managed to safely flee the burning house and rescue six dogs who were caged inside.

Volunteer firefighters who were first on the scene reported hearing explosions from inside.

"I stopped to put my gear on and all of a sudden every window in the whole house exploded about probably ten feet from the house," said John McLear of the Lisbon Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious in origin.
