If you drove by Watertown's Public Square Monday, you probably saw people waving flags and playing bagpipes.

However, the demonstration wasn't cultural, it was political.

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property was showing its support for traditional marriage.

The group believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Members say they received a positive response in Watertown.

"I've actually been very surprised - 60 or 70 percent I think conservatively of the people that pass us by honk in favor. Others don't honk, but they wave, give a thumbs up," said the Norman Fulkerson, the group's public relations director.

The group says now that gay marriage is becoming an issue in state government, it would like to see the state allow the public to decide whether or not to make gay marriage legal.

The group has been traveling around the state to get its message out.
