Country music star John Rich has told a nationally syndicated radio talk show host that he is coming to the 23rd Congressional District on Monday to rally for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Rich told Steve Gill of the Nashville-based Steve Gill Show that he is headed to the north country on Monday to perform.

During his interview on the radio show, Rich said, "I'm flying up there, taking my guitar. We're going to play a couple of rallies. I'm going to go play for some troops, play for some veterans and play for the voters up there and try to rally more support for Hoffman."

7 News contacted Hoffman's campaign to confirm that Rich would be performing Monday in the district.

Campaign spokesman Rob Ryan said he was aware that Rich plans to travel to the region on Monday, but no venue has been chosen.

Earlier this week, the Watertown City School Board was approached by Hoffman representatives, who said they were considering using the district's facilities for a John Rich appearance.

The representatives had looked at both Case Middle School and Watertown High School as possible sites.

However, the performance was scrapped because of scheduling problems and difficulty finding an adequate venue.
