Port Leyden Man Extracted from One-Car Roll Over in New Bremen

Lewis County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a one-car motor vehicle crash on State Route 812 in the Town of New Bremen on November 2, around 10:48 AM.

Authorities state that Robert M. Hughes, 54, of Port Lyden, was driving south when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree on the side of the roadway.

Hughes was trapped inside his vehicle and extricated from his car after EMS and fire crews arrived.

He was then transported by helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Lewis County Search and Rescue, New Bremen Fire Department, Croghan Fire Department and Ambulance and Onondaga County Sheriff's Air Unit One.

No tickets were issued, however the accident is still under investigation.
