Feedback: Taxes To Go Up Under Ogdensburg Spending Plan
Job cuts, a property tax increase and higher sewer rates are all included in Ogdensburg City Manager Art Sciorra's preliminary 2010 budget. Sciorra is proposing the city's economic development zone director, the housing rehabilitation coordinator and two positions in the comptrollers office be cut. The budget also slashes funding to outside agencies by 25 percent. "We're going to have to look at all expenses and revenue streams really closely and if you look at that budget, there's not a lot of fat in there. There's no equipment purchases, there's a reduction of staff. They really tightened the belt on it," said Mayor Bill Nelson. Property owners with an average house assessed at $50,000 would see a $91 increase in taxes from $730 to $821. Most Popular |
