Feedback: Public Pays Respects As State Police Trooper's Hearse Passes Through Dexter

Update: The public paid its respects to David Lane, a Dexter native who died Wednesday while on patrol as a state trooper.

His hearse passed through the village of Dexter Thursday.

State police and fire department officials gathered at the Donald J. Grant Park on Route 180 in the village to salute Lane.

Village Clerk Patricia Lamon encouraged the public to join the police and fire officials in paying their respects.

On a day after winning the election for Jefferson County Clerk, Cheryl Lane is mourning the death of her 30 year old son, David.

David Lane was a New York State Police trooper who worked out of the State Police Catskill station.

A four-year member of the state police, he was killed Wednesday while driving his patrol vehicle.

According to police, Lane was traveling northbound on State Route 32 in the town of Catskill, when he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle.

The vehicles made contact and Trooper Lane's vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a telephone pole.

A graduate of General Brown Central School, he was the son of Cheryl and Stephen Lane of Dexter.

Lane was also an Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
