A Watertown man was in stable condition at University Hospital in Syracuse Friday night after being injured in a hunting accident earlier in the day.

Joey Tufo, 45, of Barben Avenue, suffered injuries to his neck and shoulder.

The accident happened near Route 11 in the Town of Adams.

According to authorities, they were called to a field near old railroad tracks around 6:30 a.m. after a hunter, sitting in a tree stand, shot Tufo.

Police said the other hunter, a friend of Tufo's, was using a .270 caliber rifle. Initially, police said the hunter mistook Tufo for a deer.
