Friday: More Doses of H1N1 Vaccine Arrive
It's not a flood by any means, but more doses of the H1N1 vaccine are arriving in the north country. The Public Health departments in Lewis and St. Lawrence counties have received another 400 doses, while Jefferson County's Health Service received 1700 doses this week. "We don't have enough at this point to do all the schools," said Donna Grant, Jefferson County's chief public health nurse. "We certainly have enough to make a good start." That start was slow Friday: public health nurses vaccinated only 17 of 100 students at Faith Fellowship school in Watertown. Based on the questions they've been asking, public health officials say only 20 to 30 percent of students will get the H1N1 vaccination. "I think it's just made people very nervous whether it's a safe vaccine, which it is," said Grant. Health officials expect the number of vaccinations they receive to continue to grow. Private sources - including the offices of individual doctors - are also getting supplies of the vaccine. Most Popular |
