A new apartment building in Watertown is almost ready for tenants.

Crews are busy putting the finishing touches on Riverview Plaza on Newell Street.

On Monday, Empire State Development Chair Dennis Mullen toured the building, which was spearheaded by Long Island developer Michael Treanor.

Treanor received a $1 million grant for the project and secured state money for his other endeavors, the Carthage Buckley Building and the Woolworth Building in downtown Watertown.

"We went with a winning horse. Here we've got three projects that this gentleman continues to bring to us. Let's understand clearly that there's a competition for these and that competition has a lot of criteria attached to it," said Mullen.

Riverview Plaza has pre-rented a third of its apartments.

People will start moving in by Christmas or early January.
