There has been an apparent upset in the race for Cape Vincent Town Supervisor. Two weeks ago, Democratic incumbent Thomas Rienbeck was declared the unofficial winner. Now that the absentee ballots have been counted, it appears Republican Urban Hirschey (pictured) is the winner. According to the Jefferson County Board of Elections, Hirschey received 637 votes and Rienbeck got 614. The results are still considered unofficial. The votes will be certified by the end of this week or early next week. Reinbeck was a supporter of wind farms, while Hirschey chaired a group opposed to them. Reinbeck said that debate helped shape the race and was dissappointed that those against wind development aren't thinking about the revenue it could generate for the town. He said, "All they care about is their own viewshed." Reinbeck also said he's finished with politics for now. 7 News asked Hirschey if a vote for him was a vote against wind power proposals. "I think it is partially that and partially a vote for change," he said. He also called it "a vindication to the town board that a lot of people are upset about what's going on." There's also a legislature seat in Lewis County that's too close to call between incumbent Joyce Hoch and challenger Paul Sanford.
