Hacketts Planning To Re-open Canton Store This Weekend

The Hacketts department store chain will use Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection to re-open its recently closed store in Canton.

Company Chief Operating Officer Herbert Becker told 7 News that the Miner Street store could re-open for business this weekend.

Becker said he hopes to slowly rebuild the Hacketts chain, but won't disclose any locations under consideration.

He said filing for Chapter 11 protection has given the company a chance to move forward without any debt and with cash on had, essentially starting out as a new company.

Becker said when he arrived in May, the company was in a "sorry state" and that previous management ran the company "into the ground".

He said it was a mistake to try to open six or seven stores in a short period of time.

Becker said Hacketts will try to rebuild the company slowly, methodically and carefully.

He said this is an exciting new beginning for Hacketts.
