SUNY Canton Student Accused Of Raping 13 Year Old Girl
A 13 year old girl was allegedly raped inside a SUNY Canton residence hall by a 23 year old college student who told university police he thought the girl was 18 and of legal age for consensual sex. Jean-Martin Ady of Brooklyn faces felony charges of second and third-degree rape and a misdemeanor charge of unlawfully dealing with a child. Court records show the victim was one of three teenage girls who were outside Smith Hall early Saturday morning when Ady let them inside the building to warm up. According to police, Ady told them that the three followed him to his room where he consumed about five beers before taking the teenage girl to another dorm room where the two had sex before being interrupted by a knock at the door. When the door was opened, university police said they found the underage girl with Ady. Ady's statement also says, "I had sex with the girl. When there were people knocking on the door, the girl said to stop. I stopped. The cops were at the door when it was opened." "You have to be 18, I think, to have sex", Ady's statement continued. "I thought that the girl that I had sex with was at least 18." In Ady's statement to police, he admits never asking her age when he took her to the room and allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact. Ady remains jailed on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond and has been temporarily suspended from the college. College officials said they are reviewing residence hall policies and procedures to determine whether there is a need for changes to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future or whether this was just an isolated incident and the result of bad choices.
