Gouverneur Woman Killed In Head-on Crash

A 49 year old Gouverneur woman is dead following an accident on County Route 22 in the Jefferson County town of Antwerp.

State police say Donna M. Niles of 451 Little Bow Road was travelling west on the road when her vehicle lost traction on an ice-covered section of roadway and crossed the center line.

Her vehicle collided with an oncoming car driven by 19 year old Bridgette J. Sharlow of Chaumont.

Niles was transported from the scene by Theresa Ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Neither Sharlow, nor an adult passenger, were injured.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Theresa Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Police.

The accident between the sedan and a blue VW Beetle happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
