Fort Drum's Commander Says Soldiers Are Ready To Deploy If Needed
Tuesday night, President Barack Obama committed an additional 30,000 troops to fight the war in Afghanistan. On Wednesday, we still don't know if Fort Drum's 1st Brigade Combat Team will be among the units deploying. 10th Mountain Division Commander Major General James Terry said he hadn't received any orders for Afghanistan, but he added that the division has a reputation for being ready to meet any mission. "The 10th Mountain Division has been called on numerous times and I think in terms of readiness a lot of that has to do with the adaptability and versatility our soldiers," said General Terry. General Terry said deployment of a full brigade doesn't happen overnight; it could takes weeks or months and during that time language and cultural training would help maximize the soldiers' effectiveness.
