Emotions ran high at Fort Drum Tuesday afternoon as more than 300 soldiers returned home from a year at war.

Members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team were reunited with their families and friends after spending a year in Afghanistan.

During their deployment, the soldiers built infrastructure and rooted out insurgents.

It was a deadly year as well for the brigade, which lost more than 20 soldiers in combat.

The rest of the 3rd BCT is expected to return home by mid-January.
