Denise Paul has yet to hear her husband's voice, but several friends in Haiti have told her that he is alive. Leptune is a pre-law professor and has yet to return to Watertown to see their 6-month-old son, but currently he is making ground on returning to the U.S. The same friends also reported that Leptune's house was destroyed in the earthquake.
Earlier Report: It has been four days now and Denise Paul, who lives in Watertown, has still not heard from her husband, Leptune, who lives in Haiti. (Denise and Leptune are pictured above). "I know if he's okay, he will find a way to call me," said Denise. The phone calls stopped Tuesday after a massive earthquake hit the island. Leptune, a pre-law professor hasn't been in touch and Denise is doing her best to stay positive. "I'm hoping that nothing did happen because it just can't. It just can't," said Denise. Denise came to the north country in 2002. She and Leptune were married in 2006. Photos of her wedding day include a picture of Denise and some of her bridesmaids. Denise just received word that one of those friends died in the disaster. She has also heard that other relatives didn't survive. The news makes Denise even more desperate to hear from Leptune. She has been trying to get through to him non-stop. "We're all in the house trying to hear something and it's not going through," said Denise. Denise's brother, Evens Bellabre, also lives in Watertown. His wife is still waiting to hear from her sister. "The only thing we can do is basically call, try and call, try and call," said Bellabre. Those waiting for news admit they feel trapped in the north country - unable to get word about loved ones. Denise and Leptune have a six month old son, who lives in Watertown. She says she has faith her husband will be reunited with them. But right now, they need help connecting. |
