Henderson Sues Hounsfield Over Wind Project
The town of Henderson has filed a lawsuit against the town of Hounsfield, and it's asking a judge to overturn the planning board's site plan approval for the Galloo Island Wind Farm. Henderson Town Supervisor Ray Walker says he feels the town of Hounsfield and the Department of Environmental Conservation did not do their due diligence when investigating how the Galloo Island Wind Farm would affect neighboring communities. Walker says a large group of people in the town of Henderson live on the water, and the windmills could negatively affect the aesthetic value of their property. He says the "flashing lights" from the Wolfe Island windmills already create a distraction, and the Galloo Island Wind Farm would be even closer to the shore. Walker says the town would like the whole permitting process to be redone. Hounsfield Town Supervisor Timothy Scee says the Town Planning Board did all its work under the guidance of an attorney, and he believes members did everything required of them during the process. The Galloo Island Wind Farm project would bring more than 80 windmills to the North Country. It cleared a major hurdle Tuesday night, when the Jefferson County Legislature narrowly approved a PILOT agreement for the project. |
