Looking for the right gift for your sweetheart? Businesses are counting on it. Orders for flowers are stacking up. Demand for other hot sellers like Valentine's gift baskets is also up. That's what Randy VanCoppenolle got for his wife. "I figured I'd do something different this year," he said. Something different is what Edible Arrangements in Watertown's Towne Center is offering this year. Just as the name suggests, it's a present you eat. The arrangements consist of a variety fruits dipped in chocolate. "Our sales are very good. Yesterday has been our largest day so far," said Brent Lowell of Edible Arrangements. But, let's face it. For some people, Valentine's Day is the not the sweetest or rosiest holiday. It turns out that one Watertown radio station has just the thing for those folks. "We want to give away the anti-Valentine's Day gift...a divorce," said Lancer, a radio personality at 94 Rock WOTT. One person has a chance to win a get-out-of-marriage-free card. it's a no contest divorce, meaning it has to be clean and easy. The finalists' sob stories are posted on the internet and Listeners will pick the winner. "It's tongue in cheek frankly. It's rock and roll," said Jim Leven, chief executive officer of Community Broadcasters. Leven says response to the promotion has been huge. Plenty of people are looking for a good clean split instead of flowers and sweets. |
