A 71-year-old fisherman is suffering from hypothermia after falling through thin ice on Lakeview Pond in the Town of Ellisburg Wednesday night.

James Lackey was pulled from the water by rescue crews after being in the cold waters for nearly an hour.

Belleville Fire Chief Scott Lennox said that the crews had difficulty reaching Lackey due to the unsafe nature of the ice.

Lackey was 600 to 700 yards off shore, and as rescue teams tried to reach him, ice was breaking across the pond.

He was transported to Samaritan Medical Center, his current condition listed as good.
