School officials around the north country have been warning of layoffs and program cuts if Governor Paterson's proposed cuts in aid become a reality. On Friday, educators met with elected officials at the annual Legislative Breakfast at Case Middle School. It was a chance for school officials to plead their case with state Senator Darrel Aubertine and Assemblywoman Addie Russell. The big fear of superintendents is that Governor Paterson's proposed cut in school aid could get even bigger before the state budget is final. There was bad news on top of bad news at the forum. Senator Aubertine said next year's budget situation, both on the state and school levels, may be even worse. |
