A Bright Spot in Ongoing Housing Crunch

There's a bright spot in the ongoing housing crunch in the Fort Drum area.

While housing remains a challenge, officials say finding housing for soldiers that recently returned from deployment with the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team went relatively smoothly.

A recent change to the way soldiers obtain on post housing is to thank.

Soldiers redeploying are given first priority and officials say its been a big help to stabilize the whole market.

"Instead of having a family move on post after being the north country for a year and a half, we're going after the families en route - those that are staying in hotels - and getting them bedded down that much quicker," said James Corriveau of Fort Drum Public Works.

We're not out of the woods just yet, though. Many of the 3rd Brigade soldiers are on leave until next month.

Officials say there may be a small rush on housing when they return.
