A Special Day for Special Athletes

Friday was a special day for special athletes at Fort Drum.

Soldiers with the 10th Mountain Division teamed up with children and adults for the Special Olympics.

Events like bowling, track and field, swimming and basketball were all designed to make the participants feel like champions.

"It's really heartwarming to see all the kids and see how they react," said Mike Deline of the Special Olympics.

"We think it's an important demonstration of support to the community and support to the athletes," said Major General Mark Milley, commander of the 10th Mountain Division.

7 News' own Mel Busler was master of ceremonies for the Special Olympics day at Fort Drum.
