Family and many, many friends are mourning the loss of a 75 year old Copenhagen man.

William Snyder has been identified as the victim of Wednesday's all-terrain vehicle accident in Lewis County. (Read his complete obituary here.)

At the Lewis County Detachment of the Marine Corps League, he was known as Major Snyder, a Marine veteran of the Korean War.

Snyder was heavily involved with Detachment 754 activities, including plans to place 1,000 American flags on veterans' graves this Saturday.

"He fought hard not only while he was in, but mostly for the deceased and those that are having problems," said Donald Jewett, commander of Marine Corps League 754.

The league is planning an open house at the Lowville Detachment in Snyder's honor on the day of his funeral.
