Accused bank robber James Russ is expected to serve 6 years in state prison after admitting to an armed robbery at Hermon's Community Bank last summer.

Russ was in St. Lawrence County Court Friday to enter guilty pleas to felony charges of second degree attempted robbery and second degree attempted burglary.

The plea bargain will allow him to serve a maximum of 6 years in prison on both charges.

The agreement also covers six  burglaries in the Hermon Dekalb and Canton areas, including the theft of between $2,000 and $3,000 in coins stolen from Dawn Slayko of Cousintown Road.

Russ admitted robbing the Hermon bank with a handgun July 21, 2009 and stealing a safe containing $2,000 from a Dekalb home.

He will be sentenced September 13.

None of the money was ever recovered. Prosecutors say Russ spent the money to feed a drug habit.
