Accused Rapist Allegedly Sent Letters to Victim

A 29 year old Canton man who allegedly raped, kidnapped and beat a woman is now accused of sending the victim letters from jail.

Joshua Lake, whose address is listed as 56 Post Road, was arrested in June after allegedly assaulting the woman in the St. Lawrence County town of Pierrepont.

On Friday, he was charged with four counts of violating an order of protection.

Lake is accused of sending four letters to the alleged victim by mailing them out in other mail addressed to a third party, who then forwarded the letters.

The third party could face criminal charges for his or her role in sending the letters, officials said.

Lake was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court and returned to the county jail.

In July, a grand jury indicted Lake on three counts of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree criminal sexual acts, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.

According to the indictment, Lake forced the victim to strip naked and perform oral and anal sex during the June 19 incident.

Lake is also alleged to have held the woman inside his house with an air gun, which he discharged near her head.

The victim eventually managed to escape and notified authorities from a neighbor's house, officials said.
