Adirondack Visitors Advised To Use Proper Equipment
State officials are warning backcountry visitors in the Adirondacks to use proper equipment now that snow and cold have taken hold in the mountains.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says snowshoes or cross-country skis are required for safety in the Eastern High Peaks and they're advising people visiting other parts of the park to use them as well.
They're also warning that waterways have only recently started freezing and ice may not be safe to cross.
For people planning to visit icy areas, they recommend carrying crampons.
