Advocates Plan Late-Session Push For Minimum Wake Hike

Advocates of raising the state's minimum wage are gearing up for the final four weeks of the legislative session.

At a Tuesday rally at the Capitol, proponents that include clergy and the Occupy Albany movement hope to rivet attention on the proposal, even though it has languished in recent weeks.

Clergy will also target Senate Republicans in their home districts and advocates for the poor plan to "bird dog" Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to keep the issue in the press.

The Assembly bill would increase the minimum wage to $8.50 an hour for about 1 million workers. The minimum wage is now $7.25.
