An 'Operation Christmas Child' Packing Party

A Watertown church was in the giving spirit of Christmas Sunday. But they weren't stuffing stockings, they were stuffing shoeboxes.

New Life Church assembled and collected shoeboxes full of gifts for poor children, as part of Operation Christmas Child.

The boxes are shipped off to children in other countries. Organizers say the rest of the world needs Christmas, too:

"There's a lot of places in America that give kids gifts, but we go into nations where there's nothing. And so, to be able to give this child the gift, and to tell them that they're special to God and to us, it's a huge impact on them," said Operation Christmas Child's Patty Jennings.

"Oh my gosh, it's such a blessing," said New Life parishioner Kim Campbell.

"Especially when you hear the stories of people coming back, the people who have actually handed a shoebox to a kid that's probably never, ever, ever received a gift, it's just absolutely awesome," she said.

If you missed the shoebox packing party Sunday, you're not too late. You can still drop off gifts from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday.
