Another Dem Running for State Supreme Court

Another Democratic candidate has entered the race for state Supreme Court in the 5th judicial district.

Onondaga County Legislator Thomas Buckel was in Watertown Friday morning to make his candidacy official. Buckel, who is also a lawyer, says he will bring nearly 30 years of experience to the job.

Buckel denies that he is breaking any gentleman's agreement to allow north country counties to retain the seat.

"The judges, wherever they're from, end up sitting in every part of the district for one time or another, and I don't believe any potential candidate has more experience with every nook and cranny of this district than I do," Buckel said.

Buckel joins a field of Democrats that includes current acting Supreme Court Judge Charles Merrell, of Lowville.

The Republicans also have a crowded field of candidates, including Jim McClusky, of Watertown, and Michael Young, of Lowville.
