Patsy Makuch says it all started with an apple, and a passion for her family's fourth generation farm. With retirement rapidly approaching, Makuch says she wanted to occupy her time in a meaningful way.
"I brainstormed during work, what can I do to keep me at home but also have a business?," said Makuch.
And now three years later, Makuch is celebrating the fruit of her labors, with the grand opening of her own apple orchard at Denmark Gardens. It is the first of its kind in Lewis County. Customers say the apples, ranging from Cortland to Honeycrisp and Zestar, definitely pass the taste test.
"I do like the apples. And as you can see, they're very juicy," said Craig Brennan, as he stretched his jaw to take a huge chomp out of a ripe apple.
The gardens and a corn maze located across from Carlowden golf course are all open from 1 to 6 pm Thursday through Sunday.
