Are There Jobs Out There for College Grads?

This year's college graduates will still face a highly competitive job market.

But, it's better than it was when they came on campus as freshmen in 2008.
 
Psychology Major Mallory Godreau isn't worried that she will be leaving college without having a new job already lined up.
 
"I'm staying optimistic and I'm willing to try any job opportunity that comes my way," she said.
 
There is an upbeat in spirits on college campuses like SUNY Potsdam this commencement season as Class of 2012 graduates, like speech communication major Ben Houck, who has been hired for a marketing job at an amusement park, are finding a somewhat more promising job market than past graduates entered.
 
"By the middle of April I had 45 applications out to different spots and a lot of rejection letters, but thankfully, two came back positive. I did some interviews and I ended up taking a job with Six Flags," said Houck.
 
Master's graduate Amanda Sherry is hoping her degree won't go to waste even if it means having to relocate to another area for a job.
 
"I don't have anything lined up yet. I'm going to move home to Lake George for a little bit, substitute around the area and then I think move out of state," said Sherry.

Karen Hamm oversees career development at SUNY Potsdam.

She says while the job market remains tough, there are some bright spots if graduates are flexible.
 
"Students really need to be actively marketing themselves," said Hamm.
 
College graduates we spoke with told us job hunting was like a full-time job in itself.
