Area Residents Step Up To Help 'Willie'North country people stepped up this weekend to help an Evans Mills man known for helping others. A benefit was held for Wilson "Willie" Stevenson at the American Legion in Philadelphia. Stevenson is the owner of Willie's Barber Shop in Evans Mills. He was involved in a car accident that left him in a wheelchair and has been in the hospital ever since. On Sunday, vendors sold crafts and baked goods with a portion of the funds going towards Stevenson's medical bills. "Wilson has always been there to help us in the past at all the community functions, so within days we had decided a benefit would be the best thing," said benefit organizer Michelle LeJeune. "The women have been wonderful," said Hellen Alton, Stevenson's foster mother. "Friends, strangers, everybody has come forward with so much help." "Overwhelming," Stevenson said. |
