Auction Benefits Urban Mission

It was an auction for a mission - the Watertown Urban Mission, that is.

The Urban Mission's 4th Annual Auction took place at St. Anthony's church in watertown Saturday.

There were over 100 items up for bid, including everything from an old Atari video game system to fine china.

Officials say the turnout from the community was bigger than expected.

"People care very much about their neighbors in need and the turnout today shows that because people are here to give to a good cause and get great items," said Watertown Urban Mission spokesperson Drew Mangione.

Saturday's auction raised around $13,000 for the Urban Mission.

FX Caprera donated $5,000 of that.

It also donated a new pick-up truck that was raffled off at the event Saturday morning.

To enter the raffle, people had to give food or personal hygiene items. In all, about 1000 items were collected and dropped off for the Urban Mission on Friday.
