Audit Criticizes Fine Fire District

According to the state comptroller, things are not fine in the Fine Fire District.

Thomas DiNapoli announced his office completed an audit of the district.

He says the district board has not adopted purchasing and investment policies or a code of ethics, as required by law.

According to DiNapoli, the secretary-treasurer has not filed the correct annual financial report with the Office of the State Comptroller since 2007.

The audits said that although the district board reviews claims before they are paid, it has not conducted an annual audit of the secretary-treasurer's records, as required by town law, in more than five years.

In a letter from fire district, the board says it's taking corrective actions.
