Beaver River Added To State Fish Advisory List

The state Health Department has issued new safety warnings for people who eat the fish they catch in New York's waterways.

Part of Beaver River in Lewis County has been added to the state's fish advisory list.

Men over 15 and women over 50 are now advised to only eat up to one meal a month of smallmouth bass caught between High Falls Dam and Croghan Dam on that river because of concerns about mercury.

Women under 50 and and children under 15 are warned not to eat any fish at all from that water.

The full updated fish advisory list for each region in the state is available on the Health Department's website: www.health.ny.gov/fish.
