Beaver River Gets Behind Boys Basketball Team

Students at Beaver River Central School are rooting for the boy's basketball team as players prepare for state competition against Moravia this Saturday.

"This is huge! I can't wait. I'm proud of the basketball team," said student Erik Lyndaker:

"I'm really excited. They've worked hard for it," said student Keegan Bowman.

On Sunday, the Beavers won the Section 3 Class C Championship.

When the team lost the same game to Cooperstown last year, players say it was all the incentive they needed to fight for redemption this time around.

"After losing last year in the finals, I think it was a blessing for us because we realized how much we wanted it," said team member Alex Hall.

Some people think basketball practice is all about layup after layup after layup.

But, the guys say it's all about the sprints.

"We've just been running a lot of sprints to get in shape so we can play full out for the full 32 minutes of the game," said player Samuel Widrick.

The Beavers haven't won the Overall Class C Title since 1979.

But this year the school and the community is confident they'll bring home victory.

"As a community, we want to see that happen for them," said Superintendent Leueen Smithling.

The team of 14 will play the big game in Binghamton.

Players hope to see everyone sporting the school's colors - green and orange - in the stands as they play their hearts out on the court.
