Imagine you're on your computer, and it stops working. Then, a person claiming to be from Microsoft calls and tells you they're aware you have a problem and can help. It seems like great customer service, but it's all a scam
Connie Orr is one of the scammed. Connie was on her laptop one day in her home in Adams when she began having trouble using her Internet browser and icons on her computer. That's when a man called claiming to be with Microsoft. He offered her a firewall security package deal for about 350 dollars. She paid with her credit card.
"We found that most of these scammers are from out of the country, most of them don't have an actual telephone number that's traceable," said Deanna Nelson, assistant Attorney Genral.
