Local law enforcement officials are warning people to be careful of a phone scam they're heard about.
St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies say people should ignore calls from anyone claiming to be with Microsoft Global Company.
The caller says the company has detected viruses on the victim's computer. They tell the owner what keys to push and soon the caller controls the computer.
Then, the caller demands money to unfreeze the machine.
Deputies say never to give out personal information over the phone, such as bank account, credit card or Social Security numbers.
The sheriff's office says to contact authorities if this happens to you.
