Big Changes In Store For Lewis County Legislature

Half the members of the Lewis County Legislature are not running for reelection.

Some say they're simply burned out.

"And I guess I can only speak for myself directly but I think it's time for new blood to come in there - some new ideas, different ideas," said Jack Bush (R. - District 9), who's not not seeking reelection.

Two others who are running face challenges.

That means there could be as many as seven new members on the 10-member board.

In District 4, incumbent John Boyd isn't running.

Republican Bryan Moser is unopposed to replace him.

In District 5, Pat Wallace isn't running.

The contenders to replace him are Richard Chartrand on the Democrat line and Tom Jaconski on the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines.

In District 6, Democrat and Independence party candidate Paul Stanford is challenged by Republican and Conservative party hopeful Andrea Moroughan.

The District 7 seat being vacated by William Burke has three contenders - Jeffrey Beyer on the One & Done and Democrat lines, Republican and Conservative Lee Hinkleman and Greg Kulzer on the Voice of the People line.

In District 8, incumbent Rick Lucas is not running.

Duane DeLair has the Democrat and Independence party lines and Larry Dolhof has the Republican and Conservative party lines.

Dolhof is a former county legislator.

In District 9, Jack Bush is not running.

Fellow Republican Neil Pepper is unopposed to replace him.

In District 10, incumbent Jerry King is being challenged by John Healt on the Independence party line.

In January, there'll be a learning curve for much of the board.

"They'll be asking a lot of questions that we haven't looked at and maybe they look at things a little differently and deserve some further investigation," said Legislature Chair Mike Tabolt.

Voting hours Tuesday are the same in Lewis County as everywhere else in the state, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
