Blueberries Ripe For The Picking

If you want something done right, it's often better to do it yourself.

Many people like to pick their own berries and, despite the dry weather, it's been a strong summer at self-pick operations like the one at Tug Hill Vineyards near Lowville.

It's slim pickings for raspberries until the fall crop comes in, but blueberry season is in full swing.

There's a lot of big blue ones and a lot of green and still unripe ones, so they should be here for another, we're hoping, three more weeks," Theresa Sammon said.

What doesn't end up in your cereal bowl - or maybe  a pie - will still be put to good use. Tug Hill Vineyards uses many of its berries to make wine.
