Bonnie Castle Rec Center Rescued From Closure...For Now

Rumors have been swirling around the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center for the past few days concerning the possible closing of the facility.

The 1000 Islands Privateers hockey team, which rents the ice for its home games, has decided take action.

Sources told 7 News that team owner Nicole Kirnan will keep the facility open by leasing it until the end of March.

The lease was signed Friday.

That means that youth hockey teams, the girl's high school team, the Fort Drum Mountaineers hockey team along with the Privateers will have ice for the rest of the season.

It also means public skating will continue and plans are for the restaurant to stay open until the end of the lease agreement.

Without the Privateers stepping in, the facility may have closed as early as Sunday.

The Privateers stepping in has guaranteed the facility staying open until the end of March - after that it's a big questionmark.
