Contract Worker Dies In New York Air Brake Accident

Watertown police have identified the person killed Monday afternoon in an accident at New York Air Brake as Christopher Getman, 28.

Police also released a fuller description of the accident, which occured just after 2 pm.

Getman was working for P & M Construction, a Watertown company, which was contracted to do work at Air Brake's Starbuck Avenue plant.

"While moving heavy equipment, one of the P & M employees became trapped under the equipment and succumbed to his injuries," according to the statement.

Dr. Samuel Livingstone, Jefferson County Medical Examiner, responded to the scene and pronounced Getman dead.

"Our Department is working with members of OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration - the New York Air Brake, and P & M Construction," according to the city police statement, which noted "This is an ongoing investigation of an industrial accident." 

"New York Air Brake is deeply saddened by the death this afternoon of an employee of a service provider company working in our Watertown facility," Michael J. Hawthorne, Air Brake president, said in a written statement.

"Our most sincere sympathies go out to the victim's family. We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, working in full cooperation with local authorities."

 

On this date, on or about 2:11 p.m., members of the Watertown Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Jefferson County Sheriff Department, and the Watertown Police were detailed to the New York Air Brake located at 748 Starbuck Ave. in the City for a report of an industrial accident.  At this time, the investigation shows P & M Construction, of 759 Starbuck Ave. in the City, was contracted to do work at the New York Air Brake.  While moving heavy equipment, one of the P & M employees became trapped under the equipment and succumbed to his injuries.   Dr. Samuel Livingstone, Jefferson County Medical Examiner, responded to the scene and pronounced the employee, who is identified as Christopher S. Getman age 28 years old, deceased. 
This is an ongoing investigation of an industrial accident.  Our Department is working with members of OSHA, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the New York Air Brake, and       P & M Construction.   There will be no further information at this time.
