The new owners of BreconRidge Manufacturing plan to begin closing their Ogdensburg operation in October putting more than 80 people out of work.

Workers learned the plant would be closed by January 31, 2011 when they received a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification.

The longtime plant, which makes and repairs telecommunications equipment, originally started as Mitel before it was sold to BreconRidge.

It was purchased by Sanmina-SCI Corporation of San Jose, California, last April for close to $54 million.

St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency officials said efforts were made to convince the new owners to keep the Ogdensburg operation running but to no avail.

County officials said affected workers will be able to receive retraining and other assistance while efforts will begin to find a replacement tenant at the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority's Commerce Park.
